About Chords
A chord is a set of three or more notes played simultaneously. The most common chords are triads — three-note chords built from a root, a third, and a fifth. The quality of the chord (major, minor, diminished, augmented) is determined by the intervals between these notes.
Seventh chords add a fourth note (the seventh) above the root, creating richer harmonies. Extended chords like minor ninth add even more color. This tool recognises ten chord types across all twelve musical roots, using enharmonic flat spellings for clarity.
