Guitar Tuning Guide

Tuning your guitar correctly is fundamental to making it sound its best. Standard tuning uses the notes E2, A2, D3, G3, B3, E4, starting from the thickest string (6th string) to the thinnest string (1st string).

How to Tune Your Guitar

1. Select your tuning profile (e.g. Standard, Drop D) and click Start Tuner.
2. Pluck a single guitar string clearly. Ensure other strings are muted so the pitch detector can focus on the active string.
3. Under Auto Detect mode, the tuner will automatically determine which string you are playing and display the cents deviation.
4. If your string is severely out-of-tune, the auto-detector might register a different string. Switch to Manual Select mode and click the target string to lock the detector to that note.

Alternative Guitar Tunings

  • Drop D (DADGBE): Lower the 6th string (thickest) by one whole step to D2. This is popular in rock and heavy metal music for its heavier, deeper bass sound and easier power chords.
  • Open G (DGDGBD): Re-tunes strings to form a G major chord when strummed open. Widely used in slide guitar, blues, and folk music.
